Susan’s creative streak twines itself throughout everything she does. Whether she is singing, cooking, writing or creating visual art Susan’s originality shines. For over 3 decades, Susan has worked as a hairdresser, creating colors and shapes with the goal of improving people’s lives; her artistry is evident in every stroke of the brush. In 2013, Susan was inspired to expand her art career and use her abilities to motivate, empower and encourage women and girls. Her fulfillment comes when something she writes, draws, photographs or says makes a positive influence on someone else. In the fall Susan is launching a motivational speaking facet to her multi layered art career. She hopes to travel, write, create and inspire, knowing her own inspiration is derived from those things. Her next book, “Hell If I Know” is in progress.
Artist’s Statement:
Do good and create beauty. As an artist I believe this is my responsibility and privilege. Art is the tool by which I unite myself with the worlds of mystery and aesthetics. Imagining a sculpture, mixed media piece, photography or written words and working it allows my heart to inspire my mind and my mind to move my hands and my hands to shape my surroundings. The process is a journey; it’s holistic and somehow divine. The finished work sometimes pales in comparison to the journey, and sometimes it makes an uncomfortable journey worthwhile. For that reason, sometimes I forsake glamour and take the journey to a land not of this earth but of somewhere remarkable, beautiful, and fulfilling. —Susan L. York
